Eve of Justice: Lighting the Way to the Supreme Court

Love is a basic human right

On Wednesday 4 March, join us For Justice and Equality. Stand against Proposition 8 throughout California.

LGBT Protest

On March 5th, the California Supreme Court will hear oral argument on why Proposition 8 should be repealed.

On the evening before the California Supreme Court holds oral argument on the validity of Proposition 8 and whether the initiative process can be used to take away fundamental freedoms from minorities, join us for a candlelight vigil for justice and equality.

Please wear your Amnesty T-shirt, stickers, and other Amnesty wear. Show the press and the nation that Amnesty International USA is united to overturn Proposition 8.

These events are being sponsored by many organizations, see the Eve of Justice site for the full list of participating organizations.

Sponsored by Amnesty International and a host of other organizations.

What

Wednesday, March 4 is the day before the California Supreme Court hears oral arguments on the validity of Prop 8. That evening, we’ll stand together and send a unified message to our fellow Californians, including the Supreme Court Justices, that individual liberties like the right to marry are guaranteed by the Constitution to everyone and cannot be stripped away at the ballot box by a bare majority. Just as important, we will give our love and support to all the families headed by same-sex couples who are threatened by the recent electoral outcome, as well as same-sex couples whose hopes and dreams of marriage and family have been frustrated by enactment of Proposition 8.

We invite the LGBT community and supporters to join us and other marriage equality organizations around the state as we stand together on the night before the California Supreme Court begins to consider the legitimacy of Proposition 8.

  • Re-commitment ceremonies for same-sex couples whose legally married status is on the line
  • Candlelight vigil and rally for equal marriage rights
  • Remarks by religious and civic leaders in support of marriage equality
  • Musical performances
  • Stories of real people affected by the passage of Proposition 8

Please join us for what promises to be a powerful and moving event!
